These programs are protected under the copyright laws of the United States of
America. No part nor portion thereof, may be copied, except as backup nor dis-
tributed on any media, nor operated on more than one computer, nor may "Output"
derived therefrom be distributed for commercial gain, without the express
written consent of Data-Plane Inc. You will be allowed to process and maintain
about 500 records. Thereafter, you must purchase the program. No exceptions.
Shareware versions may be distributed so long as ALL FILES are included without
modification. This program is not in the Public Domain; and permission to use
it may be withdrawn at any time, without prior notice, at the sole discretion
of the author.
These programs operate for Regional Settings of English(USA) only. Using
these programs for countries not of USA origin will result in faulty date
and currency calculations.
Much of the information is redundant. However, for identification purposes
you might find it invaluable to ascertain the identity of the purchaser
with as much information as possible.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
DESCRIPTION
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have questions about the application of this program, or are seeking
a Merchant Account to process credit cards, consult with your bank. Your
Banker can answer most questions about the implementation of Credit Card
Tracker(tm).
This is not a manual. It is a README.DOC file. A manual will be supplied
upon request and purchase of the program. An additional manual from the
HOST processor, e.g., MAPP, VISA-NET, etc., is required for a full under-
standing of the principles and concepts contained herein. This Readme.doc
file is incomplete, and has not been maintained. Shareware users are
therefore deprived of information about the latest updates to the system
This program operates in the Windows 3.0+ / Windows95 environment. It is
a Windows driven program. This program will keep track of all Credit Card
transactions, and obviate the need to store point of sale hard copy. In
addition, the life of the database record is forever, and therefore can
be retrieved in a matter of seconds, given any one of numerous parameters
to search for.
Whether you have a Credit Card Reader or not, if you do a lot of credit card
processing, this program is a must whether you want to process transactions
or simply keep records. Telemarketing & Mail Order operators take notice. It
organizes & produces reports on all types of credit card transactions,
retaining the information forever; making it so easy to find data concerning
chargebacks; and to reconcile balances on large batches. It replaces the rolls
of tape & other bits & pieces of paper used for records. Does a ton of
accurate record keeping for very little work. Prints Mail Labels. IBM 386+.
Almost every transaction code in the MAPP repetoire has been implemented,
including the Administrative set, Hotel/Car Rental set, Mail Order set,
Purchase Card set, American Express Restaurant set, etc.....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This program has been certified by MAPP (Global Payment Services, Inc.).
Therefore, Credit Card Tracker(tm) may be used to transmit credit card
transactions. Enter the source data....transmit the transaction to the
HOST, receive immediate credit to your Merchant Account....and a permanent
record is created automatically by Credit Card Tracker(tm); which can be
accessed, modified and otherwise retained forever. A blessing if you are
dealing with a chargeback.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This program will be networked for multi-PC users.
In the following discussions, "Customer Credit Card Grid" is interchangeable
with Main Menu. "HOST" refers to the remote computer processing your
transaction....whereas "TERMINAL HOST" refers to your main PC.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are four(4) possible companies involved in a Credit Card transaction.
1) Your Company is the Client Company.
2) The Bank Card Service Company which receives and processes the transaction.
3) The issueing agency. E.g., American Express, VISA, Diners Club, etc.
4) Your bank, which issued you a Merchant Account.
Each time a new record is added, or an old record is modified, it is tagged
with the current definitions of Client Company, Processing Company and
Merchant Account, etc....Therefore, once correctly entered and processed,
these parameters remain attached to the record and cannot inadvertenly be
changed.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTALL
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Make sure all Windows applications have been shut down.
Place Diskette #1 into drive A:
Select File Menu.
Select "RUN"
"A:SETUP" <Enter>.
Select Subdirectory of Choice ("CREDITCD", is default). Exercise care
if changing subdirectories. Make sure the selection is taken. Otherwise, the
files might go into the root directory...or some other place. The computer
will follow your instructions explicitly.
The printer should always be on.
If this is a "Zipped" downloaded file, select a subdirectory different from
subdirectory where the original downloaded file resides. The original unzipped
files may be deleted after SETUP.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
WINDOWS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This program will operate on any version of Windows.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
WINDOWS SHORTCUT
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Normally Windows Setup will place a shortcut, complete with Icon into the
Startup Menu. If this doesn't happen on your PC, then select:
"SETTINGS"
"TASKBAR"
"ADD"
Drag the "CREDITCD.EXE" Icon to the Start Program group.
If you elect to launch from Windows Explorer, you will have to CLOSE the
Exployer to see the screens.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
GETTING STARTED
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
From the Customer Credit Card Grid, select:
1) FILE
2) DEFINITIONS
3) CREDIT CARD DEFINITIONS
4) FILL IN THE GRID
5) SALESMEN
6) ENTER SALESMAN CODE, NAME, ETC.....
Note:
Card types / codes are limited to the collection from the
Definition grid, which you have created.
Source(s) are collected from the direct entries made by the user,
and the list will expand with use.
A modem and sound card are required for this program. MultiMedia
PC's are preferred.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
TYPICAL OPERATION
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Click the SHOW Icon. A transfer of screens will occur.
2) Click the NEW Button. A new empty record will be presented.
3) Click the SALE Button.
4) Fill in the bright Yellow text boxes. The balance of the data is optional
and may be entered now, or later.
5) Turn on your modem....and click SEND. If you prefer a batch operation, do
nothing at this time. Instead return to step 2, and continue to enter
transactions. When ready, click EXIT.
If a Batch mode:
6) Click FILE.
7) Click BATCH.
8) Click PROCESS.
9) At the end of the Batch, click the Response Column cell in the Title Bar.
The records will sort. Find records that failed during Batch mode.
10) Correct faulty records.
11) Return to step 6.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
MODEMS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Most, if not all, PC's today have Fax-Modem cards. Windows95 makes use of a
technique call "Plug & Play" devices. Simply put, the device does not receive
the data directly to transmit. Windows95 does a transformation of the data
before it is sent thru to the device. In many cases, this transformation is
not necessary, especially if the data is prepared from ASCII text. Neverthe-
less, Windows95 will transform the data....and compress it. Compression of
data is not compatible with HOST Credit Card processing. Therefore, this
compression must be turned off. From the Windows menu, select:
1) SETTINGS
2) CONTROL PANEL
3) MODEMS
Turn off the compression....and try one of the two Access numbers listed
below.
If this is not successful, purchase an external modem and cable it into one
of the available commports in the back of your PC. The modem does not have
to run faster than 1200 baud...and is therefore, very inexpensive ($25).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
ACCESS NUMBERS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Currently there are two(2) numbers available for demo:
1 - 800 - 494 - 1102 & 1 - 800 - 443 - 4496
If you do not have or know the Access Phone for real transmittals, you may
proceed to build your database until such time as you receive same. In the
meantime, you will not be able to send nor process real transactions, however
you may maintain the records. See your banker to get valid numbers.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTES GRID FIELD DEFINITIONS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
TODAY : Each row is marked with the date and time of entry.
This field is locked and controlled by the system.
TIME : This field is locked and controlled by the system.
DATE : If this field is blank, the system fills it with
today's date, or the date from the preceeding row.
NOTES : 255 characters of text.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
MERCHANT FIELD DEFINITIONS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
CARD CODE : Card code as prescribed by Credit Card Service.
E.g., MC, VS, DC, JCB....etc.
Note: VISA is not the same as VS; and each requires
a line of definition. You may use both, so
long as each is defined.
If you accept DEBIT cards, an entry must
be made for same. The word DEBIT is sufficient,
as the card number yields the source.
CARD CODE is equivalent to TYPE.
ASSOCIATION : Number as it appears on statement. This number
describes Credit Card Service Company.
MERCHANT NUMBER : Your Merchant Number with Credit Card Service.
BANK : Receiving Bank into which deposits go.
BRANCH : Branch of Receiving Bank.
CITY : City of Receiving Bank.
ROUTING NUMBER : Receiving Bank Routing Number.
ACCOUNT NUMBER : Receiving Bank Account Number.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
AUTHORIZATION DATE
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you leave the "Date Authorized" field blank, it will be filled in with
today's date, if an Authorization is present.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
BATCH PROCESSING
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
This feature processes multiple transactions, as distinguished from a single
transaction. Each item to be processed must pass these tests:
1) A valid Total Dollar amount must be included.
2) A Credit Card number must appear in the appropriate field.
3) The Response field must start with the word "PEND"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
ICON/SYMBOL DEFINITIONS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Right Arrow : Shift focus to Authorization field.
Plus Sign : Mark selected line "OK" to pay; meaning Sale is
complete.
Bright Sun : Show selected record and notes.
! : Mark record "Pending" for anticpated batch processing.
Dark Sun : Display all records whose column contents match the
contents of the highlighted cell.
Half Sun : Reset and display all records.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
BOOKMARK INTERVALS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not all forms accept bookmarks. Grids accept bookmarks. Bookmarks help
control the amount of printing/processing that will be committed.
Where applicable, the Grid will prompt you for a Bookmark(s).
Hold down the [Ctrl] key and click the leftmost fixed column. The line will
be highlighted. Do the same for another line. The subsequent print operation
will be delimited to the interval set by the BookMarks.
For example, you may want to use this feature to cut out and print results
only for the month of May.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
FILTER
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Display all records whose column contents match the contents of the
highlighted cell. The viewable records are a subset of the much larger
database. This subset may be sorted and bookmarked.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SORT
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The database, or any subset thereof, may be sorted. Click the cell in the
Title Bar of the column that you want sorted.
A typical operation loads and filters. The viewable database may now be
sorted, without affecting the rest of the database. Using Bookmarks, you
may further delimit the activity to only that portion of the database, which
is of interest.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
DELETING RECORDS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Overwriting is permitted.
To delete a line item:
1) Click the row that you want to delete.
2) Click on the leftmost fixed column. The line will highlight.
3) Press [Del] key.
The last item in a set may not be deleted. It is saved as an example.
To start, an "Empty" record will make an appearance. After several sessions,
this record may be deleted or overwritten. It serves no purpose except as a
placeholder to begin with.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
ADDING RECORDS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
There is no limit on the number of records that may be added.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
PRINT MAIL LABELS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
To accommodate the Post Office, you may want to sort the database in zip code
order. The labels will be printed in said order.
This program first looks at the mail address line. If it is blank, then it
defaults to the street address, etc. Line items may be deleted and otherwise
fully edited. Therefore, you may selectively add or delete labels at run
time. Placing and "X" in column 1, will ignore that line during the labels
print.....but will hold it in place during a delete label operation. Thus,
you may print one batch on one size...delete...then print the remainder on
a different size...then remove the "X" and delete these. In addition, if you
insert any other character in column 1, it will not print...but it will
delete.
One label always remains after a delete as a placeholder.
Labels may be produced as a by-product of print operations, selectively
inserted by clicking on the "MAIL SLOT", manually entered by the user,
selectively deleted, selectively passed over during a Label print operation,
or completely deleted by the user. Click on the "Mail Slot" to generate one
label. A label has been produced when you see the letter appear in the slot.
To withdraw the letter, to create another label, click again.
Since the label file is added to by appending, the user may elect to allow
the list to grow. A notation in the header of the Mail Label grid tells the
user how many labels are available for print; thus, the user may prepare
enough label sheets to accomodate the entire print out.
This procedure has a unique feature that allows the user to specify the
"Start Label Position". Thus, if you have printed only one label on a
page, you may specify in a subsequent run, that the printing on the
first page begin at label position 2. Label position 1 is at the Left-Top;
and the very last label on a page is at the Right-Bottom. Columns are
printed first.
Margin control is also available. This feature allows you to move the text
within the confines of the label. This dimension always matches the label
dimension.
Notes:
Manufacturer's of labels may give non-precise label measurements. For
example, Avery label #5351 is reputed to be 2 3/4 inches wide. It is
actually 2.833 inches wide. This system allows the user to enter such
a dimension, for truly accurate registration.
It is recommended that the user first try printing to a blank piece of
paper to make sure the registration is accurate.
This feature may be disabled in Shareware.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
REMARKS
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
0) Start off each days session with a transaction code "41". This will sync
your batch number same as HOST.
1) Suppose a sale is challenged and the only piece of data that you have is
the Credit Card Number. Sort on Card Number. The line items will be
arranged in row order, making it easy to find the Card Number.
2)
3) For multiple entries, highlight the cell of interest, press [Ctrl-C].
Move the cursor to the receiving cell, press [Ctrl-V].
4) Refrain from using special characters in alpha-numeric fields. Do not use
single quotes ('). They look like apostrophies.
5) A modem and sound card are required for this program. MultiMedia
PC's are preferred.
6) The credit card number identifies the card as VISA, MC, AMEX, etc.
Therefore the Type field (Card Code) is redundant, but nevertheless
should be maintained properly, as it yields an audit trail to the
deposits.
7) All additions to a database grid are made at the bottom or last empty
row. There are no insertions. The new record will float to its correct
position on any sort.
